Am I responsible for the rental linens damaged by the restaurant after my wedding reception?

June 26th, 2009
Renee L asked:

My wedding reception was on the past Satureday at a local chinese restaurant. This restaurant is very famous in this town and it was featured on so many local magazines (including wedding ones). We chose it because the decoration and food is good. And since they claim they did many many weddings before, we thought we’re in good hands. I didn’t like their table cloth so I rented some from a rental company, I had white linens at the reception table and red linens on the dinning tables. After the reception, me and my hubby hurried to the after party and my mother and inlaws cleaned up the decorations. On monday, I received an email from the rental company charging me $330 for 4 damaged linens, I have talked with them and found out that when they went to pick up the linen, the restaurant already packed all the linens in a bag, and told them they could only count the linens out side the restaurant. When they counted the linens in the parking lot outside the restaurant, they found that the
left over food, drink, trash are literally wraped in side the linens, and the owner described it as beyond disgusting. The owner told me the linens aren’t meant to be treated the way the restaurant treated them, and when she called the restaurant management she was told that those trash are the client’s so they don’t want to clean it up and have it on their carpet.
I don’t think I am responsible for the damage. Those white linens at reception table were the one’s that’re damaged. We use the reception table for half an hour and there were nothing on it besides guest book and pen! besides, isn’t it the restaurant’s job for cleaning up the left over food, drink, and trash? I didn’t know that we are expected to clean up the tables, what next they’ll ask me to do, wash the dishes?

Wedding Shower Centerpieces/Take Home Gifts For Guests - Need Help?

June 17th, 2009
Spoiled asked:

Help, the shower is this Sunday! A bridesmaid was supposed to bake cookies and attach them to sticks to serve as centerpieces in vases on the tables and individual gifts for the guests to bring home. Well, the bridesmaid screwed them up and they all broke!
Please post ANY ideas for easy, inexpensive wedding shower decorations that can also serve as a little thank you for coming. The mother of the bride ran out and bought little Renuzit candles, but they look tacky and will only be our back up plan.
Thank you, thank you, thank you in advance! (Fingers crossed)

I am getting married & my colors are black & white. I don’t want to break the bank on this wedding & reception so I am looking for anyone who has ideas & suggestions for “homemade” wedding decorations …. or if you have any suggestions on how to use the colors. We are planning an outdoor September wedding. If you have any really cheap websites for decor, that’d be useful as well!

Autumn Weddings Make For Romantic Moments

David Brewster asked:

Autumn weddings have a distinct romantic air to them that makes a lot of couples time their own weddings during this season. Is it the nip of the air, or the glorious burst of colors, perhaps? Or maybe, the symbol of endings and beginnings that autumn can easily stand for? Whatever the reason, autumn weddings are especially beautiful.

Autumn Weddings - Additional Touches to Go With the Season

Autumn is the time of the year when trees present themselves in their best appearances. You can actually pick up their colors for your own autumn wedding motif. Your wedding invitations, give-aways/favors, cake and decorations can also be designed with autumn in mind. The wedding entourage can also be clothed with a similar motif, from the color to the designs of the outfits.

You can actually be liberal with touches and highlights reminiscent of the season with your wedding decorations. After all, an autumn wedding should really echo the colors of the season for more drama.

It may not be a straightforward autumn motif. You may have another equally lovely motif in mind. But you can still incorporate hints of autumn into your original plans. A vineyard motif, for example can readily integrate an autumn mood.

Fabric leaves dyed with colors of fall are fantastic highlight or accent pieces to your wedding decorations. Add to this vine garlands with autumn-colored leaves and bunches of grapes and you are on the right track. Other great accent pieces would be wide gold bows and ribbons. Again, to go with the season, you can forgo too much flowers and add more greenery instead. Anyway, there are not much flowers during this season.

For your autumn wedding give-aways or favors, they can be anything wrapped in fall-themed boxes or accented with dyed fabric leaves or leaf-shaped cookies with autumn colors.

Autumn Weddings - The Bridal Gown and the Setting

If you have settled for the autumn colors - varying degrees of reds, oranges, browns and yellows, it is wise to forego the traditional virginal white and go for ivory or off-white material for your wedding gown. This blends well with the over-all motif.

As for the venue or setting of your autumn wedding, look for something that is elegant but not flashy. An old church would be a good idea. Or, to take advantage of the cool, dry season, you can have an outdoor wedding somewhere in the heart of a vineyard, an elegant garden or even an orchard. Settings like these bring out the best effect of your autumn wedding in the photos.

The idea is for the wedding to reflect the spirit of the season and remind everyone that you are getting married in this time of the year when nature is at its best.

I am already decorating the tables with antique green bottles and pink depression glass vases filled with pink and white w/green flowers. Peonies are my favorite but may add others. I need other ideas. The wedding is in a tent at my fiances parents house which is a large 200 year old victorian home with lush gardens all around. Thanks for your input!!
